Ran's installation

So me and Ran got up ealry Friday morning and drove down to the beach to set up his installation. What he did was he made 16 cermaic "rocks" with holes int eh middle of them then he stuck a pole in the middle of them so they would move up and down the pole with the waves. He waded out to his knees to stick the poles into the water. Unfortunately the tide was on its way out, so it was dry land until 8 hours later, when the tide came back in that the real show began. Ran stayed at the beach all day long to document the piece so there are lots of photos and video. But that was the point of the installation...it would be different depending on the water...so people that came in teh afternoon saw something different from people that came in the evening...and by like 7:00 p.m. in was completely submerged. He was really happy with it and how it turned out. He said that lots of people would look at it and talk with each other and say how it was used to measure the tide. One hippie type guy told him it was littering but then later came back and thanked him for sharing it with him. Here are some pictures of it:

The night before we stayed up really late painting the rocks. First we has to paint them red and then put a light layer of brown. Ran got really tired of waiting for them to dry so he took a little nap on the couch.

These are the rocks sitting on the beach before ran started putting them out.

Here is ran wading out into the water. He said it was super cold, but then his legs just got numb. Later when he was drying off he said he couldn't even feel the towel he was using.

Here they are all out floating in the water

Ran also took all the scraps of clay he had from making the rocks and poured them on a pile on the beach.

I have to throw one on of my pup...here she is getting ready to swim after a goose. Ran said she started to go after it and then the goose started honking and started swimming towards her, so she turned around and came back to the shore.

here is a little video of it. I might try and upload more later.

So incredibly cool! Wish we would have been in town to see it. The goose story is funny too!

I was finally able to check out the video. Pretty cool! Ran is super talented. Is his installation still out there? If so, I really want to check it out.

Very interesting - I can't believe that someone wanted to deface your rock - haha - Good job and sticking with it - I would have said forget it once my feet hit the ice cold water. You are very talented Ran - Maybe one day I can have some of your talent in my home :)
